Some days ago I heard a great great great SKA tune
by RITA MARLEY (if this is correct off course).
I think the song is called "watch the ride".

Does anyone has more info about this killer tune ?
Or more SKA tunes by Rita Marley ?

Bart 😉

Hi Bart,

How about these...

A De Pon Dem (1965 - Studio One) - A loose cover of a Smokey Robinson song - Choosey Beggar, I think
Pied Piper (1966 - Studio One) - the Crispian St. Peter tune

Play it nice and cool, son. Nice and cool! You know what I mean.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=63rcdLeXiU8https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LFuYIi5-igc

A DE PON DEM - "Ska Bonanza" - Heartbeat CD CDHB86/87 (1991)

PIED PIPER I only have on a re-released Trojan LP - "Club Ska Vol. 1" TTL48 (re-issued in 1970)

...a little help, perhaps...?

Heartbeat has put out an handful of Rita's ska tracks, the one on Ska Bonanza that Joe already mentioned, The Wailers & Friends release has some too.

If I remember I'll check my database for a more complete list when I get home.

...and Rita Marley recorded as part of the Soulettes, though the tunes I have are all Reggae (not Ska) tunes...

She also did a version of "The Vow" with Bunny Wailer for Coxsone - though I've only seen it on a Studio One Archive CD - volume 39...

Three tracks by Rita Marley & The Soulettes appear on "The Wailers & Friends":

"That Ain't Right"
"One More Chance"
"Friends & Lovers"

You can also find the above mentioned "Pied Piper" on 'Club Ska '67'

I don't know if they feature Rita, but there are a number of songs by The Soulettes availible:

There are three tracks with the Soulettes on the Heartbeat Lee Perry ska collection 'Chicken Scratch':

"Please Don't Go"
"By Saint Peter"
"Puss In A Bag"

Two Trojan albums also have tracks credited to Lee Perry & The Soulettes: "Rub & Squeeze" on 'Guns Of Navarone' and "Doctor Dick" on 'Dance Crasher'

The Soulettes have 'Hey Senorita' on the Studio One album 'Ska Au Go Go' and 'King Street' on SoulJazz's 'Studio One Women'.

Definitly post-ska, but you can find the Soulettes' "Let It Be" for Lee Perry on 'The Complete UK Upsetter Singles Collection #2', "Why Should I?" on the 'Trojan Sisters Box Set', and 'You're My Desire' on Jet Star's 'Bunny Lee Story' box set.

some nice people on another forum found out for me that the song I
mentioned is miscredited to Rita Marley (come to me) and is sung by Marcia Griffiths (Call to me).
It's a song that appaers on the "Rock-A-Shacka vol.5 " compil (Japan).
