Leslie Kong – Hit-Maker Extraordinary

On 9th August 1971, the Jamaican music lost of its successful, yet underrated talent: Jamaican producer, Leslie Kong

While not widely perceived as being as cool as the likes of Duke Reid or Coxsone Dodd, Leslie Kong was nonetheless, by far the most successful independent Jamaican producer throughout the golden era of the island’s musical history.

Between 1967 and 1970, his productions graced the UK charts on no less than 10 occassions, with the likes of Desmond Dekker, Jimmy Cliff, the Maytals, the Pioneers and the Melodians all achieving their  international breakthroughs while under his aegis.
