2 More Classic Trojan Albums On CD From Doctor Bird – 11 October 2017
This October our friends at Doctor Bird Records are set to release another 2 superb CD collections, each comprising classic albums from the Trojan catalogue.
The first of these is an expanded version of Derrick Harriott‘s essential 1970 collection, ‘Psychedelic Train’, which collects the hugely talented singer/producer’s own rock steady and early reggae recordings as an artist.
The quality of the material throughout is second to none, as Derrick performs a variety of originals and covers, backed by some of Jamaica’s finest session players.
The second collection re-presents on CD the immensely collectable ‘Gay Feet’ LP, which first saw issue in Jamaica and the UK (on the Doctor Bird label) in 1966.
The original album provided a showcase for Sonia Pottinger‘s newly launched Gay Feet label by highlighting a dozen of the most popular ska, R&B and jump up tracks that had been released on 7″ over the previous few months.
The CD version augments the original material with a further 12 recordings that saw issue as singles on Gay Feet during the imprint’s inaugural period, with the emphasis firmly on the best of the ska material from this time.
Neither of the albums that provide the foundation for these two new CD releases have previously been available in any format since their original release, so with these essential releases Jamaican music fans can at last enjoy them in their entirety, along with a host of carefully selected, complimentary bonus tracks.
