On 5th June 1971, Bob Andy and sometime partner Marcia Griffiths saw their version of ‘Pied Piper’ breach the British pop chart, so providing the duo with theitr second UK hit.

The record eventually climbed to number 11 on the listing, falling a few places short of their previous entry, ‘Young, Gifted And Black’, which had reached 5 on the chart the previous spring.

Impressive though these statistics are, they do not match the profound influence Bob‘s work has had upon the development of the Jamaican music indutry as a whole. Major solo works, such as ‘I’ve Got To Get Back Home’, ‘Unchained’, ‘Feeling Soul’, ‘My Time’, ‘Life’, ‘Fire Burning’,The Ghetto Stays In The Mind’ and ‘Feel The Feeling’, along with a raft of major hits for the likes of Delroy Wilson, Ken Boothe and Marcia Griffiths raised the bar for Jamaica’s songwriters and inspired many to greatness.

To mark the anniversary of his second international hit, Bob is this week’s Trojan Artist Of The Week, with a bio and  spotify playlist featuring 40 of his most popular recordings now available on this site.
