Ras Kwame This Is Trojan Take-Over

Ras Kwame is taking over the This Is Trojan spotify playlist from Friday 9th June, with the respected DJ-producer-musician-presenter adding 80 of his favourite Trojan tunes over the next 4 weeks.

A lifelong Trojan fan, Ras paid a visit to the Trojan office a few weeks ago and spoke of the label with genuine deep affection:

“The legendary ‘Tighten Up’ series on the Trojan Records label, its status in UK music well documented over the years but as with many a music industry impressario, for me it’s a starting point of a lifelong love affair with Reggae via its sounds of Rock Steady and Ska!

 

Neatly stacked amongst my Dad’s Hi-Life, Pop and Jazz selections were the records with that label that reminded me of the African Caribbean house parties we’d get taken to on a Saturday afternoon sometimes, the sounds and excitement, the food and the people, a taste of the motherland. 

From Desmond Dekker to John Holt and countless 7″ singles (giving me my first taste as a dj) through to the box sets in more recent times, Jah knows we love the Trojan label and sound over the years!
