Wilfred ‘Jackie’ Edwards – A Jamaican Originator

Image title

On 15th August 1992, Jamaican music lost one of its most influential and successful performers, Wilfred ‘Jackie’ Edwards.

Arguably the island’s first recording superstar, the singer-songwriter first made his mark on the local recording scene in the late 1950s and continued to record and perform up until his untimely passing.

Throughout this time, his honeyed tones graced innumerable soul, reggae, pop, R&B and gospel records while his talent as a songwriter resulted in some of the most enduring popular recordings of all time.

His life and music are celebrated this Trojan Tuesday, with a bio and a newly curated spotify playlist featuring 30 of his best-loved works.
